The Agitator

A tightly wound coil of visceral protest, The Agitator delivers his urgent instructions of uprising against a purely percussive backing. Part blues, part rap, the sum of the minimal parts fills the room without recourse for further musical distraction. The revolution is coming – get ready to get agitated.

Bonobo

Under his simian moniker, Simon Green has been making sublime, chilled instrumentalism for the last decade. Since cutting his teeth with the influential Animal Magic album on Brighton’s Tru Thoughts in 2000, he has expanded his repertoire to full band live work and become something of an TV ad agency favourite.

Clearlake

Taking the time to create their tales of small-town drudgery and gallows-humoured narrative, Clearlake have released three perfectly formed albums in their ten years together. Now in a comparitive flurry of activity they’re preparing for the unveiling of their fourth, Dark Blue, as well as Jason Pegg’s first solo record.

Gazelle Twin

A true exponent of the eclecticism we expect from our Brighton musicians, Elizabeth Walling is sure to break the city borders before too long. Formerly singer and flautist with local notorieties A Scandal In Bohemia, she has recently adopted this solo guise for a uniquely classical take on pop electronica.

The Go! Team

This Mercury-nominated six-piece are a classic case of cut’n’paste culture – pick pocketing hip hop, buzz guitars, cheerleader chants and old kids’ TV music to create a piece of contemporary musical nostalgia. Live, the band expands outwards with live instruments, double drummers and Double-Dutching ropedancers in an infectious and energetic show.

The Levellers

Mixing the polemic of eco-left lyrics with accessible, rabble-rousing songs in the 90s earned The Levellers more gold and platinum discs than they knew where to hang. So they created their own office, rehearsal and studio complex in town, helping the in creation of another generation of Brighton music.
