Chameleon – an exhibition by Tina Gonsalves

White Night takes place during Fabrica’s autumn exhibition Chameleon an interactive, digital art installation by Australian artist Tina Gonsalves.

Chameleon explores ‘emotional contagion’ (ie how the emotions of one person affect another). For White Night, come and take part in Chance Encounters a series of extreme drawing activities alongside the exhibition which are speedy, fun and challenging.

6pm – Face to Face – Based in our temporary café. Drawing a portrait of your companion across the tablecloth.

7pm and throughout the night – Remote View – Using SMS, participants (who’ve signed up) will be sent a prompt word which they have to draw where they are with any available medium on any available surface (e.g. dust on a windscreen, food, steam on a mirror, lipstick, etc.). Participants take a picture and text it to Fabrica’s online gallery.

9pm – Emotional Rollercoaster – Using a selection of prompt words (undisclosed to the participants) and working with a life model, up to 10 visitors at a time draw a specific emotion on a pre-made face template. Discussions about which emotion informs which expression will be part of the activity, plus the opportunity to access anatomy books and other material (including the exhibition) about the physiology of facial expression. Individual contributions will come together as one piece – a crowd of faces showing a multitude of facial expressions, from ecstasy to distress.

11pm – Luck of the Draw – Visitors will be invited to draw other visitors as they interact with the work and the changing video images. This activity builds on previous ‘drawing to film’ events that we have been devising alongside the exhibition programme over the past two and a half years.
