Drawing Cards from the Deck

A night of life drawing at the Komedia studio bar themed around thirteen Major Arcana cards of the Tarot deck. The symbolic references of the tarot card’s imagery will be evoked through costume, prop and theatrical staging to create nine dynamic poses giving a unique twist on the conventional life drawing class. Collaboration with the BANG animation bus through a series of poses designed for animators will represent the tenth ‘Chariot’ card.

The event will give people the opportunity to draw from a unique range of costumed and nude poses in the context of a theatrical life class. Tuition will be provided by Jake Spicer of the Brighton Life Drawing Sessions After 9pm every half hour the doors will be opened to allow participants to come down to the studio bar where there will be given a drawing board, paper and drawing materials and shown to a space in which to draw.

People will be allowed to stay for multiple sessions if they so wish, or leave after the half hour when the model switches. Upstairs people will be invited to have their drawings photographed for record; information about on-going educational programmes will be provided.

One pose will involve life drawing for animation: 10 2minute poses presented as a sequential movement. Representatives for BANG will be on hand afterwards to guide those interested in finding about more about animation to the BANG White Night Event. The night will end with a set from the DJ who will be providing accompanying music throughout the night.

A small booklet/leaflet will be printed and distributed before hand and on the night which will contain a full program of the night’s poses, a blurb about the evening and information about ongoing life drawing events. The leaflet will be designed by the Entente (www.the-entente.org) to reference the design of Tarot cards and will include drawings by Jake Spicer and a custom type face by the Colophon type foundry (www.colophon-foundry.org) made especially for the event, all of these services are very kindly being provided for free with the charge being for printing only. The booklet will be a souvenir of the event.
